One Teacher Writes ...
Young
patriots: During the month of February, my kindergarten students were enjoying a
unit on patriotism. Construction paper flags,
George Washingtons cherry tree, and homemade books about Abraham Lincoln filled the
red, white, and blue bulletin boards. We were
proud to be Americans, to know about the Statue of Liberty, and to honor those who had
served our country well.
One day as our
morning routine began, the loud speaker, which normally led us in the Star Spangled
Banner, went silent. As we began to sing a
cappella, I decided to listen as my young Americans sang of their pride in a country that
was free. Tears rolled down my face as little
voices sang of bombs bursting in air. How
wonderful, I thought, that children in our small southern town have such an
understanding of valiant soldiers in defense of country.
As the national
anthem came to a close, the entire class swelling with Georgia pride herald
praise to the land of the free and the home of the ... Braves. |
