A Class of Patriots
A classroom of little citizens celebrate their own form of American pride.
One Teacher Writes ...
Young patriots: During the month of February, my kindergarten
students were enjoying a unit on patriotism. Construction paper flags,
George Washingtons cherry tree, and homemade books about Abraham Lincoln
filled the red, white, and blue bulletin boards. We were proud to be
Americans, to know about the Statue of Liberty, and to honor those who had
served our country well. One day
as our morning routine began, the loud speaker, which normally led us in
the Star Spangled Banner, went silent. As we began to sing a cappella, I
decided to listen as my young Americans sang of their pride in a country
that was free. Tears rolled down my face as little voices sang of bombs
bursting in air.
How wonderful, I thought,
that children in our small southern town have such an understanding of
valiant soldiers in defense of country.
As the national anthem came to a close, the entire class swelling with
Georgia pride herald praise to the land of the free and the home of the
... Braves*.
